PPP Findhorn The Scottish Unicorn
Classic Scale, handmade earthenware sculpture from a Vintage and discontinued mould which I own, with added custom unicorn horn.
Stands approximately 22cm across (at the widest part) and 27cm tall to the tip of his horn.
As I call "Bonny Scotland" my home I couldn't resist pouring this fella on International Unicorn Day this year (April 9th). Believe it or not, the Unicorn is the National Animal of Scotland! Why did Scotland choose the Unicorn? Unicorns are associated with purity, strength and power. Pretty admirable qualities, don’t you think?
They’re also proud and untameable – two words many people would use to describe Scots throughout history. Since the 15th Century, many monarchs of Scotland have used the unicorn in their coat of arms. Kings favoured the mythical beast because they considered it to be the best representation of power.
'Findhorn", not only a village in Moray, Scotland, is also the name of the Unicorn in the fantasy book "Elidor". My version has been decorated with lavish attention to detail in underglazes (realistic eyes, gorgeous highlighting and shading of his hairy coat detail, ivory in his mane and tail, soft dappling on his hindquarters and more!); given a gorgeous and crystal clear gloss glaze finish before having Pure White Gold overglaze lustre added to his horn and hooves. Surely the very essence of this mythical beast!
